LuAnne Lawhon

LuAnn Lawhon has been working in the early childhood field for the past 12 years. She's had access to a computer lab for only two of those years, and she was thirty-someting before she ever put her own hands on a computer. She is living proof that you can teach an old teacher new tricks!

LuAnn gets frustrated when she looks for computer resources for the early primary grades. People tend to refer her to ABC or 123 drill programs, and her first graders can do so much more! She is currently working on a series of short projects designed to promote independent use of the computer. Since she has only one quality computer in her room, these short assignments enable the maximum number of students to practice technical skills during the weeks between lab sessions. Young children learn by doing, and this reinforcement in the classroom enables the students to use lab time more productively. LuAnn has plans to make these projects available to other teachers through SCR*TEC this summer.
